Dec 6, 2018 | Supreme Court rejects CCI and Jio’s cartelisation pleas against Airtel, Voda Idea

Read More>> KOLKATA: The Supreme Court on Wednesday dismissed the Competition Commission of India (CCINSE 0.00 %) and Reliance Jio Infocomm’s pleas to probe cartelisation charges levelled by the Mukesh Ambani-owned 4G entrant against Bharti AirtelNSE -2.46 %, Vodafone India and Idea CellularNSE -0.88 % — the latter two have recently merged to form Vodafone Idea — providing relief to the older incumbent carriers.

The CCI had appealed against an earlier Bombay High Court judgement that had quashed its probe against the incumbent operators on grounds that the antitrust watchdog had no jurisdiction to do so since there is an existing sectoral regulator — the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai).
